OUR STORY

At Top Tier Cakery it is an honor to be a client-centered, licensed, insured, legal couture cake design studio and bakery, operating within strict standards of excellence. We make your experience personal -- taking the time to partner with you and learn what will make your cake special. Each of our cakes is custom designed and made fresh -- frequently so beautiful that you almost don't want to eat it! We believe in quality over quantity, and therefore limit the number of orders that we will take for any week. Popular months can fill up quickly, so it's a good idea to reserve your date as soon as you have decided you want Top Tier Cakery as your baker.

Cake Designer Nancy Collard spent her childhood taking for granted her mother’s ​

daily-baked pies, breads and cookies, and the constant supply of fresh eggs, butter, and ​milk​-- as well as fresh and preserved fruits and vegetables -- on her family's farm. It was to set the standard for her approach to food as an adult: it must be high quality; it must be delicious; it must look wonderful.



Nancy's first artisan cake was accomplished at age ten when she designed and made a "lady’s bonnet" cake, decorated with flowers from her own garden, for Mother's Day. A love of cooking and baking followed, with a focus on desserts. Later, when traditional vocations gave way to "stay-at-home mom", Nancy's pursuit of food excellence bloomed just like those flowers on her first cake.

As her children grew and became independent, Nancy's frequent prayer was "Where do you want me now, Lord?" The wedding of a friend's daughter brought the answer: Nancy volunteered to help wherever needed and the friend replied, "would you make the groom's cake?" The cake was a success, and a passion was born.

Since that time, Top Tier Cakery's owner has aggressively pursued stretching and honing her skills through classroom training, one-on-one instruction, personal study, and friendships with many of the world's most esteemed cake designers. Her zeal for all things cake, combined with her love of learning, make this an ongoing process -- there's always something new in the sugar arts!


Today one of Nancy’s greatest joys is to see the delight that her cakes bring to people. Exclamations of, “Wow! Is that a CAKE???” and “Oh, it’s too beautiful to cut!” are often-heard music to her ears. And, of course, since it is cake it must be cut in order to fully enjoy the mouth-watering treat.


Nancy is an active member of The International Cake Exploration Society (ICES), and travels regularly to participate at both the state and national level.
